Too Edgy? Here's How to Soften the Look of Your MetalPrints

When photographers and creatives hear "MetalPrints", the immediate visual that comes to mind may include a high gloss finish with stark glare and contrast levels, modern display options with hard edges, or sharp corners that look borderline dangerous. Here's your friendly reminder that it is in fact possible to soften the look of a MetalPrint! Here are some tips for taking the "edge" off and going soft with your MetalPrint displays.

Round Creative Edge Shapes

Looking to avoid sharp points? Ditch the square corners all together! MetalPrints are available in Circle and Oval Creative Edge shapes, ranging in sizes from 5x5" to 40x50". Newborn and family photographers love these shapes for their safe, stable hanging in the nursery or kids' rooms. When backed by our Float Mount Hanger, they remain lightweight which adds to the safety reassurance.

If you'd like to keep a closer aspect ratio to your image but still opt for a softer corner treatment, go for either 1/8" or 3/16" rounded corners.

Textured and Satin Surfaces

Sometimes, especially to match a light and airy interior with lots of natural light, we recommend our more matte surfaces, for a more unsuspectingly aluminum display while keeping the impressive vivid color, durability and cleanability that come with the nature of the material.

Textured surface is our most matte surface, displaying a canvas-like quality to your MetalPrint. This surface protects your display from any fingerprints and resists all window and light reflection. If you're going for a smoother look while keeping the matte finish, Satin surface (also available in Performance EXT for outdoor display) will be sure to satisfy. If you're looking for a bit more pop of color without sacrificing the soft quality of a matte, go with our happy medium finish - Mid-Gloss.

Classic and Traditional Frames

Frames are a great option for MetalPrints, if you're looking for a more finished display than the default floating and frameless presentation that may come first to mind. Our wide-ranging selection of mouldings includes classic wooden frames, and traditional gallery style frames that will take your image even further into the softer side of MetalPrints. In these cases, opposites attract! To contrast the modern look of aluminum MetalPrints, we recommend frames with...

  • Organic-appearing wood grains: Barnwood, Bamboo, Burl, and Cross-Grain

  • Beveled edges: Wedge Float Frames, Bronze Curve, and Bronze or Charcoal Reverse

  • More traditional gallery styles: French Ornate, Americana and Elegance

These frame mouldings will embellish your MetalPrint so the overall display doesn't look quite as boxy.
